CHAPTER VI - Crossing the Threshold: Take on the Dream

You now have clarity, alignment, and support. The threshold is crossed the moment you move from planning to consistent daily action.

HHG – High, Hard Goal is your biggest, most inspiring goal for the next 90 days to one year. It must be ambitious enough to stretch you but still believable. Steven Kotler popularized the term in The Art of Impossible (2021). An HHG serves as the bridge between your MTP and daily action: it is specific, measurable, challenging, and directly advances your Massive Transformative Purpose.

CG – Clear Goal is one specific, daily focus that moves the HHG forward. Clear goals were identified by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi as one of the key triggers for entering flow states. They remove ambiguity, provide immediate feedback, and keep the brain in the optimal challenge-skill balance.

Exercise – Formulating Your HHG and First CG (15 minutes)

  • Write your HHG using this template: “By [specific date], I will have achieved [measurable outcome] that moves me closer to my MTP.”
  • Then define your first CG: one clear daily action that directly advances the HHG.

Example

HHG = Complete and publish the first six chapters of the book by December 31.

CG (today) = Write 500 words before 9 a.m.

Specific, challenging goals combined with vivid mental imagery significantly increase achievement rates (Locke & Latham, 2002). (2)
