CHAPTER X - The Road Back: Track Your Progress and Issues
The road back integrates lessons learned and prevents regression. Consistent tracking activates the anterior cingulate cortex for performance monitoring and enables rapid course correction before small deviations become entrenched habits.
Daily reflective journaling enhances emotional processing and strengthens prefrontal-amygdala connectivity, reducing reactivity to setbacks (Baikie et al., 2017). When combined with weekly VENI VIDI VICI review, this practice maintains high levels of autonomous motivation and prevents the erosion of goal commitment (Koestner et al., 2019).
Exercise – Daily Progress and Issues Log (5–10 minutes end of day)
- Record three elements:
- One observable win or completed sub-goal.
- One specific issue or blocker encountered.
- One concrete adjustment for tomorrow.
- Conclude with 60 seconds of mental rehearsal of the next day’s primary actions.
- Transfer insights directly into the following week’s VENI VIDI VICI session.
